Our projects
In collaboration with The Good API and Samaúma (a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to promoting ecological restoration and other environmental initiatives), for every order you place on the Salugea website we will plant a mangrove tree in the areas of Primeira Cruz and Alcântara in Brazil, which are home to one of the most important mangrove expanses in the world.
These wonderful trees are called “blue heart” for three reasons:
The union of water and land: mangroves grow where the fresh water of rivers meets the salt water of the sea; they are "amphibious" forests that literally live in the blue.
The filtering function: just as a heart purifies the blood, mangroves filter the water and capture huge amounts of carbon (the so-called “Blue Carbon”), helping the planet to "breathe".
The protection of coastlines: they are a vital defence for local communities against erosion and storms, while at the same time supporting the local economies.
Thanks to your contribution, a new mangrove tree will be planted in Brazil and will grow, bringing support to local communities and new hope to nature.
The wounded forest is reborn thanks to you.
The Mkussu forest, the green lung of Tanzania, was severely wounded by fire. But today, thanks to your contribution, it can breathe again.
With every order you place on our website, together we plant a tree to restore the Mkussu Nature Forest Reserve, one of the nine forest reserves of the Lushoto District, severely damaged by fires.
The project focuses on replanting native tree species to rehabilitate the burnt areas, helping to bring this important ecosystem back to life in the Usambara region, in the northern part of Tanzania.
Description: The Mkussu Forest Reserve is one of the 9 Nature Forest Reserves located within the municipal district of Lushoto and lies in the village of Kwemashai, in the Kwemashai ward.
The Lushoto District lies in the West Usambara Mountains, in a landscape with a high water capacity that is an important water source for the Northern Zone of Tanzania.
A few years ago, this forest was hit by several fires linked to human economic activities such as charcoal production and firewood gathering.
The aim of our project is to help restore the degraded nature of the Mkussu Nature Reserve by planting native trees, including some indigenous species.
Among the species planted, the most common are Markhamia Lutea and Bridelia Micrantha.
The project activities include the constant monitoring of all the trees planted, and every action is carried out in keeping with the support given by the community.
According to scientists, Madagascar is a temple of nature: it is home to more than 19,000 varieties of plants and flowers, and among them the Mangroves.
The Mangroves of Madagascar are among the most representative ecological formations of the biodiversity of the Planet. And that is not all!
They protect the coastline from floods and storms, they prevent coastal erosion, they help reduce CO2 and their medicinal properties are used in numerous treatments.
But despite their importance, the Mangroves of Madagascar are at risk, as they are among the most affected in the world by deforestation and exploitation.
